After being in a religion for more than 3 decades, he found it difficult to change from that way of worship, even though he saw he needed a relationship with God. The turning point came when he was diagnosed with a deadly disease. After shedding some tears he prayed to God in the name of Jesus Christ, and asked God to take away the illness from him if he so desired. A scheduled operation proved unnecessary as no sign of the disease was found again, which the medical personnel found unusual.
After his discharge he started searching for a bible believing church where he could be baptised. He heard God’s still small voice telling him that it was as a result of his heartfelt prayer he had been healed’. He requested baptism from a pastor friend who, seeing how ready he was, confirmed that it was time for that to be done. This showed he wanted to abandon his previous beliefs. With several confirmations from the bible, he saw that he was now a new man in the Lord.
Upon checking several weeks later it was confirmed that the dead cells in his body had healed. This experience further solidified his faith in Jesus Christ, leading to his baptism. He shows his gratitude and faith in Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Takeaways from this Healing Testimony
God knows it when you are seeking him no matter how lost you are. And he can reach out to you in his own way. The way he does it with you may be different from the way he does it with another person.
Why does God let us go through hard times?
Fact is, we learn to trust God in the midst of adversity and to rely on him for guidance.
We wouldn’t require God’s assistance if everything was always pleasant and simple. Relying on him no matter what, both in good and bad times is the way out.
Romans 12:12 – explains the attitude to have in affliction. “…Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer…”
Does Prayer Really Change Things?
It takes more than simply a strong determination to overcome certain ailments. Studies have shown that when people pray, their stress levels and blood pressure all decrease. There is therefore a relationship between prayer and healing. Medications and medical professionals are sometimes necessary to help us heal. When all else fails, prayer can still be effective.
How do we Hunger for God?
Every man has a yearning for God, which is satisfied when he accepts the Lord Jesus Christ. The search for fulfilment might be directed towards other faiths and pursuits, as this man’s case demonstrated. We’re not sure if he began looking before the illness developed. But when the moment came, he understood what to do. He wasn’t an atheist; rather, he was a follower of the wrong religion, which indicates that he had a strong tendency to identify with the real God.
Why Spirituality is Important for Patient Care?
The focus of doctors’ care is holistic treatment. In trying to help a patient, his ethical beliefs and values are taken into account.
It’s not unusual for a doctor to ask a patient about his cultural and spiritual beliefs to better understand the patient and to know if his faith has anything to do with healing when it occurs.
If a patient is open about his spiritual beliefs it may help a doctor towards recommending coping mechanisms. Spiritual activities can be put in a patient’s plans for treatment.
What Draws us Near God?
In this man’s case
- penitence,
- increased faith,
- willingness to turn away from sin,
- acceptance to be baptised, and
- renouncing old harmful beliefs.
How do you know when God is Redirecting You?
God could be directing you when you start getting nervous about something, are reminded of warning signs, or feel your peace of mind is disturbed. Knowing what to do to escape certain situations and acknowledging that something is not what God will permit are also important.
It appears he has been diligently seeking and discerning God’s will over the years. Perhaps hearing from Christians can also help him get deeper understanding and answers to his queries. God made him act when it was right for him.
Why does Suffering teach us about God?
In suffering God’s goodness and care is shown. We are pushed out of our comfort zones, forced to gain new strengths and knowledge which helps us out. Suffering causes us to search for christian solutions we might otherwise ignore. Our faith then has a chance to grow.
Paul confirms in Rom 5: 3-5 that our pain has a purpose
How does a Pastor help?
Pastors work with peoples’ emotional issues and are able to identify one from a distance. They typically know how to assist those who come to the clergy for assistance with spiritual issues. Here, the man’s pastor friend did exactly that – he knew when his friend was ready to be baptised.
What about his own Heartfelt Prayer?
It’s possible there had been a lot of underlying prayers already said by this man. God answered his sincere prayer for healing right away.
What is the Pace of God?
Divine timing suggests that God does things according to a plan that may not be what humans expect and so is seen as being slow. He moves both slowly and quickly according to his own timing. We are typically grateful and happy when we receive prompt answers to our prayers from God.
It is difficult however to accept the explanations of God being slow when we’re eager for a speedy resolution. Rather than being slow, God allows things to unfold naturally such that by the time a person’s beliefs have been shaped by experiences and his faith has been solidified he takes a step of faith. God faithfully, methodically moves with us in our life’s journey whether we see it or not. We usually do not see it till his promise is fulfilled.
